<Subject>Secretary-General condemns deadly attack on peacekeepers in Darfur</Subject>
Secretary-General condemns deadly attack on peacekeepers in Darfur UN report said that UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned a deadly weekend attack on peacekeepers in Darfur
which resulted in the deaths of three "blue helmets" from Senegal. In a statement issued by
his Spokesperson, Ban Ki-moon called on the Sudanese government to bring those responsible to
justice, adding that all too often peacekeepers are killed while helping to bring peace to
Darfur. The peacekeepers, who were serving at the African Union-United Nations Hybrid
Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), were escorting a water convoy in West Darfur on Sunday when
they were ambushed by unknown armed men. Another Senegalese peacekeeper was also injured in
the attack and a vehicle hijacked at the scene was later found several kilometers away.
The Secretary-General offered his condolences to the families and friends of the fallen
peacekeepers and expressed his deepest sympathies to the Government of Senegal.
